It is not simply about getting results. The process is also important. According to Psalms 24:3-4, anyone who wants to stand in the Lord’s holy place must have clean hands and a pure heart. To have clean hands means to do the right thing. Having a pure heart means doing things for the correct reasons. You can do things that appear to be right on the surface, but deep down, you are acting with the wrong motivation. And someone can do something that appears wrong on the surface, but for what we might consider to be a good reason.
You need to understand what God expects of you and how you should approach it. You can not do whatever you like, whenever you like, and however you like. When you’re on a God-given mission, the end does not justify the means. The Israelites required water in the wilderness. God told Moses to speak to a specific rock to bring forth water. Moses, frustrated by the people’s complaints, struck the rock twice with his staff, in anger. Water poured abundantly, and the people and their livestock drank. But God was angry with Moses and punished him.
The Bible reveals that following God’s specific instructions and honouring him along the way is just as important, if not more important, than the end result. You can not steal funds and use that to build a church fit for the master’s use for example. If you want your mission to glorify God, you must be willing to wait upon him. Do not be in a hurry to get into activities without taking the time to understand not just what to do, but also how he wants you to approach your mission. Many people fail in their God-given purpose because they did not wait to receive directives from God.
