Who Stops You From Doing Nonsense?

You need somebody in your life that will not allow you to do nonsense. If you are serious about fulfilling God’s purpose for your life, then you cannot live without accountability and strong relationships. You need people around you whose presence alone corrects your behavior. People whose values challenge you to stay disciplined, focused, honorable, and aligned. It is not enough to admire great people from afar. You need real relationships with people who know you closely enough to correct you when necessary. Sometimes the fear of disappointing a respected mentor, father figure, leader, or friend is what keeps people from making terrible decisions that destroy destinies.

King Uzziah is a powerful example. The Bible says he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God. As long as that guidance and influence remained strong in his life, Uzziah prospered greatly. But later, pride entered his heart. He crossed boundaries he should never have crossed and entered the temple to burn incense unlawfully. The same man who once prospered under guidance now stumbled badly. Why? There was no longer someone close enough, strong enough, or influential enough in his life to stop him from doing nonsense.

Everybody needs people who can speak hard truths before small errors become major destruction later. Pray for relationships that keep you grounded. Pray for mentors, fathers, mothers, friends, leaders, and brothers who genuinely care about your future enough to correct you firmly when needed. You need people who can tell you, “Calm down.” “Fix your attitude.” “Dress properly.” “Think well.” “Do not go there.” “This decision is dangerous.” Many people destroy years of good work because nobody around them can challenge them anymore. Stay connected to people who won’t give you permission to do nonsense.
