You are on a mission to watch the world. To walk as the salt and light of the world. This does not mean you are the saviour of the world. You can not save anyone. Your job is to try and understand the world around you, understand what God is set to do. And you can then find your role in all of this. You are not here to save the world. You are not trying to change the world. Your mission is to do your best work that glorifies God.
A lot of people are under the delusion that they want to change the world, and make it a better place. These are noble intentions, but they are not grounded in reality. If you think about it, you’ll find the confusion and contradictions. For example, what does it mean for you to save the world? What does it mean for you to change the world? Imagining your purpose and potential in this form leads to poor plans that do not create any value. There is nothing remarkable about their works. And overall, there is little to no impact.
Forget about saving and changing the world for a moment. And turn your attention inward. Consider whether you are doing your best work that glorifies God. Are you successful? And what metric do you use to judge your own success? According to the Parable of the Minas (Luke 19:11-27), your first goal should be to identify your God-given talent and double it as a faithful servant. From there, you grow tenfold. God will then grant you authority over cities. Work hard and become successful. You will then be prepared for more challenging assignments.
