In his father’s house, his gifts mostly caused him trouble. Working for Potiphar provided him with some privileges and rewards. Working for Pharaoh, on the other hand, gave him the most platform and opportunities to express himself. The same fundamental creativity and spiritual gifts that made David an excellent shepherd could also make him a powerful king. However, the discipline and sacrifices required of a king are unnecessary for a shepherd.
