There has been a lot of news and allegations that certain people are trying to eradicate Christians from Nigeria. This should cause a renewed commitment to watch the world. Your watch over your world does not start the day you have a million dollars, win a political office or gather a million followers on social media. You are the salt and light of your community. That is all you should be about, at every point in time. If you do your job well, there would be no room for the works of darkness in your town.
It is time to ask yourself this critical question: how are you influencing your home, community, and industry with your Christian values? If you’re active and doing your job, you would have fulfilled what our Lord said about “occupy till I come.” You should be as bold as a lion (Proverbs 28:1), and yet, gentle as a dove (Matthew 10:16). You do not bow to peer pressure; you are the peer pressure. With wisdom from on high, you’re able to get people to do the right thing. The problem with the world today is caused by Christians who fail to do their work as the salt and light of the world.
It is ridiculous to think that anybody can wipe off Christianity from the face of the earth. But then, if the salt loses its ability, it is useless. The salt will be thrown out, and trampled under people’s feet (Matthew 5:13). If our Christianity can not be a positive influence on the world, and fill it with the grace of God, it is useless. Operating as the salt of the earth means that you try to be fundamentally good, honest, reliable, and hardworking. As you do this, people will be drawn to the light of Christ within you.
