Making More Room For Goodness In The World

Many Christians feel comfortable praying for their businesses to survive, but become uneasy when they begin to dream about growth. Somewhere along the line, we absorbed the idea that ambition is worldly and that smallness is somehow more spiritual. But size, in itself, is neither righteous nor sinful. The real question is what values are being multiplied. If God has called you to solve a problem through business, then growth means that solution can reach more people. Scale is not merely a financial ambition; it is a question of stewardship. A gift from God should not remain confined if it can become a blessing to many.

Consider a baker who treats 40 customers with fairness and excellence. That baker has done something good. But imagine that the same values now shape a bakery chain that serves 10 million people across a nation. The impact is no longer personal alone; it becomes cultural. The same principle applies to education. A teacher who transforms 30 students has performed a noble service. But if that teacher builds a school system that trains 10,000 young people with wisdom, discipline, and compassion, the future of entire communities can be altered. Institutions magnify values, whether good or bad.

Scripture is full of people whose influence extended beyond their immediate circles. Joseph built systems that preserved nations during famine. Daniel influenced the administration of empires. Their calling was never simply about personal success; it was about shaping the world around them. Christians should think this way too. If your company becomes the largest in its industry, perhaps it can establish new standards of honesty, fairness, and service. Perhaps customers will encounter dignity instead of exploitation. Perhaps employees will experience justice instead of oppression. When businesses are built around God-given purpose, growth is not merely about becoming bigger; it is about making more room for goodness in the world.
