In Joshua 13, the Lord rebukes Joshua, saying that he is now old and has not completed as much work as expected. The Lord’s verdict is quite damning. Joshua was a military commander, and the biblical account from Joshua chapters 1–12 does not paint a picture of a carefree individual. So, what’s up with Joshua? This passage teaches us that it is possible to think you are doing everything right, and yet, you’re lagging behind in destiny. We must therefore be careful in our approach to life. The goal is not to be busy. The goal is to be sure that one is doing the right thing.
Simply having a sense of mission is not enough. You must also ensure that you are producing the desired results. It is possible for a gifted person to simply drift through life. Dreaming and talking big but failing to deliver anything meaningful. Such a person is simply busy, with nothing to show for it. They have been running their ministry or business for 20 years with no real impact. In the sense that when you compare what they said about their mission at the outset to the actual results, you can see that they failed.
Here are some tips to avoid getting a rebuke instead of a crown of achievement from the master. First, if your mission is from God, you have to constantly pray and align yourself with Him. There must be constant fellowship. You must learn to keep your eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith. Second, there must be godly counsel. You must have a trusted circle of people who hold you accountable to the heavenly vision you’re running with. You need feedback from people. They’ll attest if you’re still running the right race or not.
