Every mission in life has an opposite mission. For example, if you decide to start eating healthy, there will be someone offering you junk food. If you want to save money, there will be opportunities to spend it. It’s not paranoia. It’s just the reality. The moment you set your heart on something worth doing, forces will rise that want the opposite to happen. That’s why the mission is not just about what you’re running towards, but also about knowing what you’re running against. Apostle Paul talked about how a great door was open, but with many adversaries (1 Corinthians 16:9).
When you ignore the people, personalities, brands, missions, and principalities that oppose what you have set out to do, you set yourself up for failure. Imagine trying to play a football match without caring who’s on the other side. You might have the best players, but if you don’t study the other team’s moves and tactics, you’ll be surprised and outplayed. In life, too, people lose not because their mission was bad, but because they didn’t prepare for the mission fighting against theirs. Nehemiah wasn’t only building a wall, he also had to out-think, and out manoeuvre the Sanballats and Tobiahs who wanted to shut him down.
John 10:10 shows us two missions: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” So, while you are out there, trying to create, build and nurture. Understand that there is someone and something out there completely opposed to you. In any case, the enemy’s mission is active, not passive. So if you know God’s mission for you, be alert to the mission that wants to stop it. Identify it. Study it. And in God’s strength, be ready to overcome it.
