Some people wait until they have every detail figured out before they take the first step. But that’s not how vision works. Clarity often comes after movement. If you’re still unsure about your mission or calling, don’t stay stuck. Start by writing down a vision, even if it’s borrowed. Find someone whose life, work, or purpose resonates deeply with you. Read their mission statement. Write it out. Let it stir something inside you. Vision doesn’t have to be original at the start. It just needs to be true enough to get you going. Imitation is a kingdom principles.
In Habakkuk 2:2, God says, “Write the vision and make it plain.” Writing helps clarify. Writing helps focus. When you begin to shape your life around a compelling picture of what could be, even if it started with someone else’s words, God will start to shape that vision into something uniquely yours. Writing and thinking about another person’s vision is not a sin. It’s wisdom. The more you walk in it, pray over it, confess it, the more refined and personalized it becomes. You’re not copying to copy. You’re copying to learn, to train your mind toward mission.
It is better to copy and meditate on the mission of your role models, mentors, church or any organisation that inspires you. Rather than doing nothing. So if you’re in a season of uncertainty, don’t sit in silence. Go out and gather inspiration. Read the visions of those doing the kind of work that excites you. Speak those words. Pray over them. Then slowly, watch your own language emerge. Your calling will not remain “borrowed” forever. God will give you something of your own. But first, He needs you to engage. A borrowed vision is still better than no vision at all. That’s how you get moving.
