The Nigerian Business Space Is Broken, Can You Fix It?

A critical look at the Nigerian business landscape reveals a troubling pattern: plenty of activity, but little productivity. Markets are crowded, side hustles are everywhere, and everyone is trying to “make it.” But much of this energy never matures into real value. Why? Because many do not understand the foundations of business. Talking about sound principles, structured systems, and long-term thinking. Proverbs 24:3 reminds us, “By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established.” In the same way, business cannot thrive by guesswork or hustle alone. Without knowledge, the house collapses. No matter how passionate the builder is.

The second killer of enterprise in Nigeria is the absence of justice. When contracts mean nothing, when people can take your goods and never pay, when the courts are slow or biased, entrepreneurship becomes a gamble. It’s why so many businesses remain informal. Because structure can feel risky in a system where law is weak. But Isaiah 32:17 says, “The work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance forever.” A righteous legal system protects value. Without justice, trust dies. And when trust dies, markets shrink. Business cannot grow where law is mocked.

So here’s the real issue: this land is broken, but can you fix it? Can you be the businesswoman, the entrepreneur, the founder who chooses knowledge over hustle? Can you build with wisdom and stand for justice? Maybe God has called you not just to profit in this system, but to redeem it. Maybe your business is His answer to a broken environment. Don’t shrink back. Ask the Lord today, “What is broken in my business world, and what are You birthing through me to fix it?” There is always something you can do right now.
