There is a story about a large ship whose engine suddenly stopped working. Experts came and tried everything, but nothing worked. Finally, they called an old engineer who had worked on engines for many decades. The man listened carefully as they tried to start the engine. After some minutes, he brought out a small hammer and tapped one spot gently twice. “Try it now,” he said. The engine came back to life immediately. Later, he sent them a huge bill. Angry, they demanded a breakdown. He replied: “Tapping with hammer: ₦2,000. Knowing where to tap: ₦99,998,000” That is the power of wisdom and understanding.
We are entering a world where many people have access to the same AI tools. Everybody can generate designs, write content, build websites, and automate tasks. But the real difference will not be the tool itself. The real difference will be wisdom. What problem are you solving? What market are you serving? What should you build? What should you ignore? What relationships should you nurture? AI can help you move faster, but it cannot decide wisely for you. Proverbs says, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” Technology is becoming common. Clear thinking and sound judgment are still rare.
If you want to build a strong business, focus on developing wisdom and understanding. Learn people. Learn markets. Learn timing. Learn communication. Learn how value is created. Spend time with God and ask Him for wisdom every day. AI may help you produce more, but wisdom is what helps you produce the right things. Scripture says, “Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established” (Proverbs 24:3). Great businesses are not built by tools. They are built by wise decisions made consistently over time. In the years ahead, wisdom will become even more valuable because AI tools will become available to almost everyone.
