The apostle Paul advises, “Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before” 1 Thessalonians 4:11 (NLT). Realize that you alone are responsible for your results. Spending time and energy on public commentary, social media drama, or daily criticism of public figures drains your resources. This leaves you with no time or energy for your main mission. Choose focus over distraction: mind your business and work. And at the end of the day, you will give an account for how you handled the things God asked you to do.
Your time and energy are limited. And you want to be conscious about spending and investing them into the things that really count. After a long day debating matters that have no direct consequences on your life and destiny, there is no energy left to read a book, think about your business challenges, or even pray properly. Why have you made it your business to keep tabs on who has the worst marriage on your street? You spend all this time and energy complaining about the speck in your neighbour’s eye, while failing to see the plank in your own eye (Matthew 7:3-5).
Start minding your business. The biggest impact you can have on your world begins with you. When you do your best work that glorifies God, everyone notices. They will all praise your heavenly father (Matthew 5:16). And more importantly, your work completes what God is doing in your generation. We know from the Bible that God calls us and gifts us differently. All our skills, talents, and gifts compliment and complete each other. But when you fail to do your work, you create a major problem for all of us. Concentrate on your work and trust that God has prepared others to handle the rest.
