Proverbs 29:18 (ESV) says, “Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law”. Having a vision brings constraints and limits to what you can do. You cannot do whatever you want, when you want, and how you want. For example, if someone desires to wake up at midnight to meditate on God’s word, they would have their dinner early in the evening, and sleep early. If you desire to do something at midnight, you don’t eat, drink and party until midnight. That goal has restrained you.
You can accomplish any mission you set out to do, as long as you recognise that you cannot do so on your own terms. The universe is all about cause and effect. You do something, and because of what you do, there will be an outcome. Your outcomes and results in life are largely driven by your actions and inactions. So, if you’re serious about your God-given purpose, you have to start by understanding that there will be principles and processes to follow. The principles will constrain you, taking away your freedom to do anything you like. But that is what also guarantees your success.
We can now see why the sinner, the lawless, and the ungodly cannot fulfill destiny. It takes more than having special talents and gifts to get massive results in life. The gifted person that operates without regards for a proper structure, law, and order will fail. An excellent example of this is Samson. Samson possessed a special gift from God but never lived up to his full potential due to lack of discipline. A disciplined Samson that understood that having a mission requires personal sacrifices would have achieved more. He did not need to die with his enemies.
