It is normal to reflect on what progress has been made in pursuit of your God-given purpose, and feel disappointed. Things are going too slowly. You’re not getting results on time. It is good to remind yourself that some missions can take years, decades, or even centuries to take shape. The Bible says, “with God, all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26). This should not be taken to mean that with God, things would be easy, or instant. Your mission from God is possible. But when you get into the details of your mission, you just might be surprised to learn how it is going to work.
David was anointed as king over Israel, but it took more than 20 years before he sat on the throne. Jehu on the other hand became king within the same day a prophet was sent to anoint him. Think about Abraham, the father of faith. God told Abraham that his children would be strangers and slaves for 400 years in a foreign land. This message came before his children, the Israelites, were enslaved in Egypt. Scholars debate the exact timeline of their slavery, but this message is important in the story of Genesis 15:13-14. Some assignments will take more time than others.
You have to stay in communion with God to find out more about your purpose. Your purpose will determine the things to do, and the things not to do. The timing of key events in your life will also be determined by the nature of your mission. You can be the same age as someone else, and that person’s mission is manifested within a few years. Yet, for you, it is taking a decade with nothing much to show for it. Do not be discouraged. The vision is for a time appointed by God, and if you don’t quit, it will surely manifest.
