If you want to live a life of faith and purpose, the key is obedience. As you listen and follow the ways of the Lord, you grow into a better understanding of your purpose. There is a lot of emphasis on fasting and praying for clarity on purpose matters. But there is not enough said about discipleship. Correct discipleship instills you with the discipline, work ethic and structure you need to lead with purpose. As you obey the person discipling you, you grow into your own things. Iron sharpens iron. You can grow into faith and purpose by association.
All you have to do is to work hard. And align yourself with purpose-driven people and organisations. When you join a team of people, under godly leadership, you’re already contributing towards the peace and prosperity of your world. You’re already seeing faith-driven leadership. You can see what a purpose-driven life looks like. As you obey and serve in such an environment, you will grow into a purpose-driven person. When you consider biblical characters like Joshua, Elisha, and the disciples of Jesus, you can see the pattern. Timothy and Titus grew into their purpose in the same way.
Luke 16:10-12 explains this principle. You must be willing to serve someone else. As you obey and serve that person, you grow into your own. If you’re sincere about your search for a life of faith and purpose, start by thinking about purpose-driven people and organisations around you. Look for a way to apprentice under such a person. Look for internships or opportunities to volunteer for purpose-driven organisations. This could be as simple as joining your church’s workforce as a volunteer. Of course, the assumption is that you attend a purpose-driven church in the first place.
