Not knowing your life’s mission does not mean you don’t have one. There is a mission on earth that you are uniquely positioned for. One day, you will see that God has already helped you to do your best work. We find our purpose one step at a time. A general principle about life is that while we live life forward, we understand it backwards. So, if you do not understand your purpose right now, there is no cause for alarm. All you have to do is align yourself with purpose-driven people and organisations. And work hard.
Many young people say they don’t know their purpose, but they are not being honest. They use this as an excuse for being lazy. Ecclesiastes 9:10 teaches us to work hard at whatever we do. You should do things well. Anything that comes your way should be done with excellence. Are you really going to blame your dirty room on lack of purpose? Are you failing in school because you are not sure what God wants you to do? Many people pay lip service to purpose discovery. They would rather do nothing, and use lack of purpose as an excuse.
If you’re not sure what your purpose is, and you sincerely want to make a difference. Start with your personal life. If you can not watch over your own soul, how do you want to watch over your world? Organising your life begins with cleaning your room. How do you approach your house chores? Do you do them whenever you can, however you can? Or do you do it well? The excellence you display in your personal life, and house chores will soon extend to your academics. You’ll study well, and pass your exams. From there, God will reveal the next steps. Do your house chores, then pray for purpose.
