There is no way you’re going to watch your world without having that sense of selflessness. You need to get out of the way, and allow God to work through you. God is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us (Ephesians 3:20). But we also know from James 4:3 that when we pray and do not receive. It is because one is asking wrongly, to spend it on one’s passions. You are not going to enjoy the best of God when all you do is pray for selfish reasons, around things that give hedonistic pleasure.
A true Christian does not put their personal needs ahead of the needs of others. It has to be God first, others second and think of yourself last. If this offends or annoys you in any way, you need to pray and meditate more on your salvation. You can not serve as the salt and light of your community if all you desire is to succeed, so that you can “pepper them.” Stop lying that your pursuit of money, fame, and power is somehow about God. Deep down, you know it isn’t.
A Christian should never run after riches, fame or power. These are about the self. They are about filling you up, and exalting yourself. True worship is never about you, and what you want. It is always about God, and what God wants. If all you care about is yourself, you will not be in a position where God can use you for great things. The price of greatness is selflessness. Your spirit will open up, and your eyes will see further when life is no longer about you. Selflessness is the price you have to pay if you want to be the salt and light of your world.
