The Bible says in Jeremiah 29:7 (NIV), “Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” It would seem like Christians today are not doing enough to engage with their nation. They are not seeking to participate meaningfully in the culture, economy or governance structures. The Bible teaches us to care about our nation. And to seek the peace and prosperity of the nation. It is actually your responsibility to do so.
The Bible shows many examples of God’s children taking care of their nations. Daniel fasted and prayed for his people. Esther and Mordecai worked to save their nation. Nehemiah worked for the king and rebuilt Jerusalem. Joseph and Moses had important roles in government. Joseph was not a pastor or priest. He worked in government with God’s guidance. Moses, THE Man of God, was not a pastor and did not start a church. He shaped a nation with God’s help. Today, many Christians focus too much on church and forget their responsibility to the country, which leads to problems.
Jesus said we are the salt and light of the world. This can be understood as having the influence required to make a difference in the world. Could it be possible that your country is bland, boring and full of mediocrity because the salt is missing in action? Could the darkness that cover the land be as a result of the lights being missing in action? The time has come to consciously seek the peace and prosperity of your world. How are your day-to-day actions contributing to the safety, welfare, and well-being of your town? Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.
