Do Good, Seek Peace, And Pursue It

Psalms 34:14 says, “depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.” Our Lord Jesus said, “blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God” (Matthew 5:9). Turning away from evil, and doing good stuff must be a key intention for a real, born-again Christian. It is something you want to do. You always want to turn away from evil, and ensure you’re doing good as much as possible. You are seeking peace and pursuing it. It is not hard to do these things, but many still fail.

The purpose of your God-given creativity and spiritual gifts is to do good, and pursue the peace of your surroundings. The biblical word rendered as peace in English is usually the word “shalom.” Shalom means more than just quiet, calm and the things we typically consider to be “peace” in the modern context. Shalom is closer to “wellness”. Shalom is a state of wholeness in all of life, completeness, welfare, safety. God is our source of all of these blessings. And through His creative spirit within us, and the gifts we have, we can bring “shalom” into our world.

Every single child of God should be a peacemaker. Your works and expressions should help turn away evil, increase goodness in the world, and move us towards peace. Every Christian ministry is about making peace. If you study every great scientific discovery or technological breakthrough, you’ll agree that it is all about helping people become whole. It is about welfare, wellness, and well-being. Teaching the word of God helps people discover and pursue their best life possible. Prophetic gifts break bondages. Advancement in medical sciences helps people live longer, etc. Your creativity and spiritual gifts are supposed to be used for peace.
