Blessed Are The Peacemakers

This is a good time to think about the words of Christ: ‘Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God’ (Matthew 5:9). As a child of God, it is your duty to make peace. You should make peace in your life, home, community, and the world. It is your business to make sure there is peace in your world. This peace must start in your heart because you cannot give what you do not have. Then, see if that peace can grow in your surroundings.

Many Christians do not have enough clarity and conviction about their job as peacemakers. They may want to help create peace, but often they contribute to the problem. You need to be clear and strong about what you believe in. The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). The thief knows exactly what they are doing. They always spoil things. But you do not always work for peace. The bible is clear that you do not fight evil with evil. Your job is to seek peace, and work for peace. That is all you should know to do.

To become a peacemaker, you must first sincerely seek peace in your heart. You cannot give something you do not have. You cannot make peace unless you possess the peace that comes from having Christ rooted in your heart. The peace being discussed here is not the result of human will. It is a peace that flows from your spiritual life. This points to the fact that you cannot make peace on your own. If there is no peace in your home and close relationships, check your heart first. Does trouble flow from your heart? Is your heart a spring of love, joy, and peace?
