Nigerians are thinking about the Super Eagles’ chances to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. They need to win all their upcoming games. They also need to hope that other teams lose. FIFA must punish a team that used a player who should not have played. If FIFA takes away 3 points from that team, the Super Eagles will have a better chance to win. The Super Eagles’ problems show a bigger issue in Nigeria. There is a lack of discipline, structure, and clear goals for important national activities. This culture of mediocrity, and “anyhowness” must be confronted.
You start to see the truth when you realize that after 8 matches, the Super Eagles have only earned 11 points out of 24. No one is taking responsibility for these failures. There is no accountability. Instead, people are hoping and praying that the Super Eagles do better. We should pray, but not just for the team. We should pray for the whole nation. We need to stop accepting mediocrity. In a place where anyhowness is allowed, nothing great gets done. The problem is not restricted to the football team. It is a problem you see in every aspect of Nigerian life.
The Bible says righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to many people (Proverbs 14:34). As a watchman tasked by God to watch over your world, increase your understanding of sin. Sin is not just lying and fornication. Mediocrity is a sin. God stands for excellence and perfection. Heaven symbolises the perfection of everything. The spirit of God drives us towards excellence and productivity. But there is a national disregard for excellence and enterprise. From Super Eagles on-field performance, to WAEC results, it is the same pattern. Will you step up to fight the mediocrity eating up your world?
