It is no accident that the book of Ezra comes before Nehemiah. Before you can have “correct” leaders, you must first have a people who know and live by the law of the Lord. You need to understand that the law of Moses is where the children of Israel draw their value system from. And so, Ezra came as a teaching priest. He taught Israel their value system. A code that would hold the nation together. Without this foundation, everything collapses into corruption. It’s like building a skyscraper on sand. First, you teach the people “correct” values. Then, you raise leaders. This is God’s pattern.
You can not build a sustainable nation with people that lack values. Look at our world today. We have many who call themselves leaders, but where are the values? We see politicians buying votes with stolen money. We see businessmen crushing the poor to increase their profit. We see public servants who live like kings while their people suffer. This is what happens when you focus on Nehemiahs without Ezras. You get ambition without direction. Strength without integrity. Power without restraint. And in the end, everything collapses under the weight of its own corruption.
If we truly want to change Nigeria, or any nation, we must return to Ezra’s pattern. Teach the word. Live the values. Then, and only then, will God raise Nehemiahs who can build walls that last. Until the foundation is laid, leadership will remain a revolving door of failure. It’s time to stop craving strong men and start becoming strong people. People of principle who cannot be bought, bent, or broken. This is done when people are taught line by line. People must be taught values before leaders and projects can blossom. Ezra comes first. Nehemiah follows. That is how you build a nation that stands.
