Submission Is The Foundation For True Life Mastery

We live in a generation where everyone wants to figure things out on their own or with friends. But that’s not how God designed spiritual growth. Big decisions around destiny, purpose, calling, money, or marriage should not be made in isolation or based on your own knowledge. Or what your friends/peers think. There is a place for iron sharpening iron, yes. But first, there must be formation. Before someone ever becomes a king, they submit to training. Before Elisha became a prophet, he followed Elijah. Jesus discipled His followers before He sent them out. If you are serious about destiny, you need a guide.

A true discipler or mentor will not just cheer you on. They will correct you, stretch you, and lead you to God. You need someone who has walked the road you are just starting, someone who hears from God and has fruit to show for it. This is not just about knowledge, it’s about formation. Without submission, there is no growth. You cannot disciple yourself. You cannot marry well, lead well, or live well by depending only on peer opinion. Find those who are ahead of you. Sit with them. Serve. Learn. Let them shape your soul and sharpen your discernment.

Luke 6:40 (ESV) says, “A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher.” Friendships are important. But don’t confuse peer companionship with spiritual formation and direction from a teacher. Your friends may love you, but they are often in the same confusion you are trying to escape. In the early years of your growth, you must prioritize mentorship. Ask God for disciplers. Submit to spiritual authority. Open your life to correction. Then, as you grow, you will attract deep, healthy friendships that flow from your formation. True growth begins with submission, it is the foundation for mastery.
