A true mission from God will take you beyond the familiar. It will pull you out of your comfort zone and force you to rethink your identity, beliefs, and even your ambitions. If you are unwilling to let go of old ways of thinking, you will fail in your mission. Many struggle with this because they try to fit God’s assignment into their existing worldview, rather than allowing God to shape them for the mission. But a true calling will stretch you. It will require you to let go of what you once held dear in order to embrace something greater.
Look at Apostle Peter. He was a fisherman until Jesus called him to be a fisher of men. He had to leave behind his trade, his daily routine, and everything that defined his life. Paul was a zealous Pharisee who believed he was serving God by persecuting Christians. But when he encountered Jesus, he realized that God’s plan was different from what he had imagined. His passion for God did not change, but his understanding of God’s purpose did. He had to give up his old ways to step into his true mission. Each of these men had to abandon something in order to fulfill their divine calling.
If God has given you a mission, be prepared to change. Be willing to release your personal ambitions, traditions, and even relationships if they stand in the way. God does not call people to stay the same; He calls them to grow, to evolve, to become vessels for His purpose. Are you struggling with your calling because it demands too much of you? Maybe that is the proof that it is truly from God. If you are unwilling to change, you will never step fully into what God has for you. Don’t resist the process—let your mission shape you.
