If God Has called You To The Marketplace

Many Christians fail in business because they do not treat it as a mission. They assume that their faith is separate from their work, as if business is just a tool for survival rather than a calling from God. But if God has placed you in the marketplace, then your business is your assignment. You are not just selling products or offering services. You are stewarding something God has entrusted to you. A mission requires strategy, discipline, and commitment. If you approach your business casually, without learning, planning, or executing with excellence, you are failing in your divine assignment.

Look at the Proverbs 31 woman. She was a businesswoman who traded in fine linen and made strategic investments. Joseph managed Egypt’s economy and preserved an entire nation through his financial wisdom. Paul was a tentmaker, using his trade to support his ministry. None of these people treated their work as something separate from their faith. They understood that their skills, resources, and businesses were part of God’s bigger plan. Yet today, too many Christians expect success without mastering their craft, understanding the market, or making tough decisions. They underprice their products, give away services for free, and avoid difficult conversations—all in the name of being “good Christians.” But is that truly wisdom?

If your mission is business, then you must treat it as such. A mission requires focus. It requires knowledge. It requires a willingness to compete, adapt, and grow. Stop feeling guilty about making a profit. Stop treating your business like a hobby when God has called you to build something lasting. Jesus told His followers to be “wise as serpents and harmless as doves” (Matthew 10:16). That means you must be sharp, strategic, and intentional. Are you approaching your business as a divine assignment? Or are you letting ignorance, fear, or false humility keep you from success? Thriving in the marketplace requires operating with the mindset of a mission.
