The Bible tells us in Proverbs 18:16 (ESV), “A man’s gift makes room for him and brings him before the great.” This means that your gift has the potential to open doors and create opportunities. However, if your gift isn’t making room for you, something is wrong. Apostle Paul gives us a clue in 1 Timothy 4:14-15 (ESV): “Do not neglect the gift you have… Practice these things, immerse yourself in them, so that all may see your progress.” This shows that gifts must be nurtured and developed through hard work and dedication to bear visible results.
Take, for example, a young man with a natural gift for programming and technology. Initially, he had great potential but lacked focus. Instead of building his skills, he kept jumping from one shiny tech trend to another and never completed what he started. For years, his talent remained stagnant. Finally, he decided to follow a structured online programming course, finishing it from start to end. After months of focused effort, he built his first functional app. This achievement proved that consistent work and discipline could turn raw talent into something valuable.
Your gift is God’s tool for impacting the world and creating opportunities for you. But gifts do not develop on their own—they require your effort. Identify your unique talents and commit to working on them daily. Avoid distractions and focus on growing your skills, just as Paul advised. Do not let your gift go to waste; nurture it until your progress is evident to all. The world is waiting for what God has placed inside you, so start now. Dedicate yourself to excellence, and watch how God uses your gift to take you to places you never imagined.
