It is easy to blame external factors when your mission seems to stall or fail. Many people chalk up their lack of progress to the difficulty or complexity of their work, rather than examining their own approach. However, could it be that you are simply bad at your job? Poor work ethic, lack of skill, or resistance to learning could be the true culprits. Proverbs 22:29 says, “Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings.” This reminds us that excellence and progress require intentional effort and skill development, not just passion or excuses.
When progress is slow, it’s crucial to pause and reflect. Are you putting in the hours, seeking knowledge, and consistently delivering your best? Or are you hiding behind excuses? For example, someone may claim their business is struggling due to the economy when the real issue is their lack of marketing skills or customer care. Matthew 7:5 encourages us to first examine ourselves: “Remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” Honest self-assessment is a necessary step to fulfilling your God-given mission.
God’s missions deserve excellence. They require us to be diligent, teachable, and willing to admit our shortcomings. Remember, God equips those He calls, but you must cooperate by improving your abilities. Rather than insisting on your way or settling for mediocrity, strive for growth. Pray for wisdom and seek mentors who can guide you. When you commit to doing your best, God will bless the work of your hands and take your mission to new heights. Stop blaming circumstances and start asking what you can do better—this humility and effort will unlock your true potential.
