Are You Chasing The Same Ambitions As Everyone Else?

One of the most important questions a Christian must ask is simple but uncomfortable: what do I really want? It is easy to say the right words in prayer, but our true desires reveal themselves in our choices. In the Lord’s Prayer, believers pray, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” That prayer is more than a ritual; it is a declaration of loyalty. It asks whether we want what God wants. A person called to watch their world must confront this honestly. Are you seeking God’s purposes, or are you chasing the same ambitions as everyone else?

The challenge becomes clearer when we look at everyday ambitions. Many of the things people pursue, like nice houses, good cars, financial comfort, and recognition, are not evil in themselves. The problem begins when those desires become more important than obedience to God. If you want the same rewards everyone in your industry wants, and you want them at any cost, then pressure will force a compromise. When truth threatens profit, which one will you choose? This is the real test of the heart. In 1 John 2:15, believers are warned not to love the world above God. When comfort becomes the highest priority, conviction loses its strength.

The real work, therefore, is the work of the heart. A person who wants to watch their world for God must regularly examine their motivations. Ask yourself: what do I want my life to produce? Success alone, or faithfulness to God’s purposes? When your desires begin to align with God’s will, clarity follows. Decisions become easier. Temptations lose their power. This is why Jesus Christ taught in Matthew 6:33, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.” When God’s kingdom becomes your first pursuit, the other things of life fall into their proper place.
