Where Did You Learn About Love, Sex and Relationships From?

Where did you actually learn about love, sex, and relationships? For many people, the honest answer is movies, romantic novels, social media skits, and viral content. Their ideas of love are shaped almost entirely by fiction and performance. They watch scripted romance, exaggerated drama, and fantasy, then expect real life to behave the same way. The problem is that these stories are designed to entertain, not to train. If all you know about love, sex, and marriage comes from Nollywood plots, adult novels, and Instagram skits, how do you expect to build a stable home or sustain a healthy relationship in the real world?

Fiction is not evil, but it is dangerous when it becomes your only teacher. Movies compress years of relationship growth into two hours. Social media skits turn complex emotional issues into jokes. Romantic novels glamorize obsession, chaos, and emotional highs without responsibility. None of these formats show the discipline, patience, communication, forgiveness, and sacrifice required to build real love. They rarely show consequences. They rarely show process. When people consume these stories uncritically, they carry unrealistic expectations into real relationships, then feel disappointed when real people cannot perform scripted roles. Fantasy becomes the standard, and reality feels like failure.

What principles guide your approach to love, sex, and relationships? Scripture says, “Through wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established” (Proverbs 24:3). Many people do relationships anyhow because they lack wisdom and understanding. And they lack it because they have not sat with truth. Entertainment cannot replace instruction. Feelings cannot replace wisdom. If you want to build a solid home, you must return to the Scriptures and to sound Christian literature that deals honestly with life. Truth forms principles. Principles shape choices. And choices determine outcomes.
