A Country Of Particular Concern

On October 31, 2025, The US hit Nigeria with the “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) tag for alleged severe religious freedom violations. Basically saying the government is either allowing or not stopping the slaughter of Christians. Nigeria’s government is like, “Hold up, that’s fake news!” They argue it’s not a religious war but complex banditry and resource conflicts impacting everyone. They say critics are just pushing a false narrative of “Christian genocide.” Just to be clear, this is actually the second time Nigeria has received this designation; it was first placed on the CPC list in December 2020 but was removed in 2021 by the Biden administration.

The re-designation is what’s causing the current diplomatic friction. It’s a classic international standoff: The US wants accountability; Nigeria says it’s fighting terror, not persecuting faiths. Amongst Nigerians, the public discourse is sharply split along religious and partisan lines. It is just another opportunity to trade blames, and score political points. Nigeria in recent decades has been a country of particular concern. It is a place where anything goes. No law. No structure. No justice. Despite having a great prophetic destiny, the country has failed to get its act together. A great divine judgement might just be unfolding in real-time.

It is not about farmers versus herders, indigenes versus settlers, Christians versus Muslims. It is about widespread corruption, low productivity, poor infrastructure, and mass illiteracy. This is about the generational absence of justice and good governance across communities in dire need. The anyhowness in Nigeria is getting out of hand. The state of Nigeria has taught us that prayers without taking action are useless. Prayers without law and order in the society will not save us. So, what can you do? Meditate on Micah 6:8. You need to start to act justly anywhere you find yourself. May God have mercy on Nigeria.
