A true Christian puts God first, others second, and themselves last. Christianity is about love; God’s kind of love. It means being selfless and caring for others. This is the secret to how Christianity grew into a world movement. We succeeded by spreading love. We won through the power of love. This love for God and others drives us to seek the peace, safety, well-being, and prosperity of the people in our lives. It can be difficult at times to show love to those who in your mind are unworthy of such love. But John 13:34 reveals that loving others is a command.
Loving people the way God wants means wanting what is best for them. Based on their own interests. This is different from what we usually feel. We often love others based on our own needs. This poisonous love is based on our own interests. We want to help people in ways that benefit us. In the end, it’s all about us using them for our own gain. This is not the love that Christ showed us. It is the opposite of God’s love. The Christian love that overcame the world isn’t selfish (1 Corinthians 13: 5).
It is easy to explain what love means to a Christian. The hard part is living it out. Your natural self could never love another person that way. The closest thing we have in the natural world to this spiritual love is the love parents have for their children. Today’s world is driven by the ideology of “every man for himself, God for us all.” This idea is from the pit of hell. You can not watch the world if you do not have the love of God. Ask God to help you, and teach you to love others genuinely.
