The Danger Of Being Undefinable

There is a mistake many creative and gifted people make: the mistake of being undefinable. When you do not identify your niche, your mission, and the exact thing God has called you to do, people may admire you but they will not take you seriously. They will see flashes of genius, but nothing consistent will come out of it. You will be everywhere and nowhere at the same time. The Bible says, “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it” (Habakkuk 2:2). Until your vision is clear, you cannot run with focus.

Do not hide behind the idea of being a “creative genius” who does everything. Undefined genius rarely makes money, rarely makes impact, and often dies unsung. You cannot build lasting influence on scattered energy. Before chasing endless ideas, plant yourself in something concrete. Build something legit. Make your name and your mark in a field where your impact is visible and measurable. Even Jesus’ ministry had definition: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me… to preach good news to the poor” (Luke 4:18). He defined himself, and got to work, trying to produce an exact result.

In life, there will be things you want to do, and things you have to do. You must complete the necessary tasks in order to be able to do your desired tasks. You may need to complete a PhD in a field other than your first choice before being able to pursue a PhD on your own terms. You may have to build a business you believe is beneath you before you can afford to build something more appropriate for your genius. Leave no room for pride. Get busy with your creativity and spiritual gifts in a field, a clear niche where your progress is visible to everyone.
