We live in a time when many young people want to be seen, but not enough want to be useful. The goal for some has shifted from making a difference to simply being visible. But as believers called to watch the world, and influence it, we must remember that God is glorified not when we trend, but when we bear fruit (John 15:8). That means doing meaningful work. Solving real problems, serving others, using our gifts. There’s nothing wrong with being seen, but it is foolish to chase visibility when there is no fruit to show. We were not created for clout. We were made to be fruitful.
The real question is not, “Are people watching me?” but “What are they watching me for?” It doesn’t make sense to become famous for being famous. Influence is only meaningful when it rests on purpose. Proverbs 18:16 teaches us that a person’s gift makes room for them. The gift, not the noise. The value you bring, not the trend you follow. You don’t need to force influence. Hone your craft. Stay faithful to your mission. Deliver real results. Impact will come. In a world full of voices, God is still looking for those who are rooted in substance.
There is a need to discourage any obsession with becoming influencers. It is not about influence. It’s about having the answers to the questions and problems of your generation. If you’re building a business, a ministry, or any creative vision, build to solve problems. Build with God. Don’t fall into the trap of empty visibility. Pray for clarity. Work with integrity. Let your fruit speak for you. Fame fades, but fruit remains. Don’t aim to go viral. Aim to be valuable. Your gift will make room. Your fruit will glorify God. And when influence comes, it will not be a distraction. It will be a tool for kingdom impact.
