In the early days of your business journey, it’s wise to go wide. Ecclesiastes 11:1–2 encourages us to cast our bread upon many waters and give a portion to seven, even to eight. This is the season to explore, to learn, and to understand the terrain. But if you never stop exploring, you’ll never build anything substantial. Many people stay stuck in a cycle of research, planning, and starting. They never commit to anything long enough for it to mature. At some point, wisdom demands that you stop checking out every new idea and focus.
The truth is, success comes when you pick one thing and do it over and over again. With intensity and patience. Every successful business leader eventually became a person of one thing. They might have started out experimenting, but they didn’t build great companies by chasing new ideas every month. They picked their lane and stayed there. No matter how many ideas you have, you can only build one legacy at a time. If you keep giving yourself permission to start over every time it gets hard or boring, you will never see the power of focus at work.
You need to make a personal rule: “I will give this one idea the time it needs to grow.” Set a season. This could be 12 months, 18 months, even 3 years, and commit. Work on it like there are no other options. Grow in it. Refine it. Build systems around it. That’s how great businesses are built. A scattered person will never create focused success. Your power is in your ability to commit. As the saying goes, “Don’t dig a hundred shallow wells. Dig one deep one.” Stay with it. Stay planted. And you will bear lasting fruit.
