When Life Feels Out of Balance

If you’re working on a big vision or building something meaningful, it’s normal for life to feel out of balance. Great assignments demand great effort. The bigger the vision, the more things there are to do, and the less time it feels like you have. Jeff Bezos once said that at Amazon, you couldn’t just pick two of three options of working hard, working smart, or working long hours. You had to do all three. When your hands are on something that matters, it will stretch you. It will test your limits and force you to grow. That’s the cost of building something real.

Jesus, our perfect example, went through seasons of extreme work. Mark 3:20-21 shows us how intense it got. It got so serious that his family actually thought He was out of His mind because He didn’t even have time to eat. In Mark 6:31, He had to pull away to rest because they had been working non-stop. Jesus knew what it meant to pour Himself fully into the mission. His life was not always in perfect balance, but it was always in perfect alignment with purpose. There’s a lesson in that: balance is good, but obedience to God is better.

No, this pace is not forever. Eventually, rhythms of rest and sustainability must be built in. But in the early stages there will be moments when it feels like everything is happening at once. This is when you’re laying foundations, chasing deadlines, or breaking into new levels. Don’t be alarmed. If your life feels perfectly under your own control, maybe you’re playing it too safe. Maybe you’re not moving fast enough. As soon as your vision gains clarity. One of the things you realise is just how much work you have to do. The work is plenty, and the time is short. Stay focused. Press in. Keep going.
