Pursue A Divine Mission That Goes Beyond Traditional Church Roles

Serving God is not limited to working within the four walls of the church. While ministry and evangelism are important, they are not the only ways to do God’s will. The work of God extends to every area of life—business, politics, education, and beyond. One reason Nigeria struggles with mediocrity in these areas is that many of our brightest minds have been convinced that serving God means staying within the church. This is a misconception. God calls us to be His representatives in every sector, bringing His values and excellence into all that we do.

David is a powerful example of how serving God is not confined to religious roles. Acts 13:36 says, “David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep.” Although David was a man of God and a prophet, he didn’t work within a church or religious establishment. He wasn’t an evangelist, yet his governance as king was considered part of God’s will. David brought justice, order, and worship to his people through his leadership. This shows that God’s purpose can be fulfilled through governance, business, and other fields beyond the church.

It’s time to reflect on how your mission can truly serve this generation. Nigeria’s greatest challenge isn’t a lack of pastors—it’s a socioeconomic crisis. Poverty is widespread, and the solution requires more than just building stronger churches. With all due respect, you don’t send a pastor on an assignment that requires the skills of big business building or governance. God is calling people to rise up in various fields, from economics to education, to address these pressing issues. If you’re serious about serving God’s purpose, be willing to pursue a divine mission that goes beyond traditional church roles.
