Who are the people you will make your mission? Whose challenges will you take on as your own, so you can help them overcome their obstacles and increase their productivity? God often places us in situations where we are called to serve others, not just to meet our own needs. By dedicating yourself to solving the problems of a particular group or community, you not only improve their lives but also fulfill a higher purpose. There is no greater reward than seeing others thrive because of your dedication to their growth.
If you’re reading this and asking, “Why should I commit to taking responsibility for a group or community? What’s my business in all this?” Then you may not fully understand what it means to be a Watchman. As a Watchman, God has called you to pay attention to the needs of your world. It is your duty to stay up in prayer, interceding for the socioeconomic issues around you—like poverty, injustice, or lack of opportunity. Then, when the day comes, you move in faith and take action to solve those problems. This is not just a path to greatness, it is the very essence of living with purpose.
Throughout history, we see powerful examples of individuals who made the challenges of others their own. Moses took on the burden of the Israelites, leading them out of slavery. Gideon accepted the responsibility to deliver his people from oppression, even when he felt unqualified. Deborah, as a judge and prophetess, stepped up to guide Israel through a time of war and uncertainty. In more recent history, Samuel Ajayi Crowther, the first African bishop, took it upon himself to spread the Gospel across Africa, translating the Bible into local languages and empowering communities through education and faith. These leaders all became great because they committed to a mission larger than themselves.
