You Must Become The Change You Desire

It is up to us to assume responsibility for creating the world we desire. We are the ones tasked by God to watch the world around us. This is who we are and what we do—we don’t waste time playing the blame game or getting lost in daydreams. We know that a beautiful, lush green lawn doesn’t just appear on its own; it thrives because someone has put in the hard work to nurture it. In the same way, to create the nation of our dreams, we must be willing to roll up our sleeves and put in the effort. Nothing changes unless we take action and do the work.

The story of Gideon and Israel’s deliverance from the Midianites (Judges 6), teaches us a vital lesson: situations don’t improve when we ignore them. In fact, the longer we turn a blind eye, the worse they become. Ignoring the deep-rooted issues in your homeland, simply because you have the option to “japa” (relocate) to greener pastures, is not a sustainable solution. Problems will only fester and grow until someone like Gideon steps up, ready to face the challenge head-on and do the necessary work. Real change begins when we choose to confront and address the issues before us.

To see real change in your family, community, or workplace, you must become the change you desire. If you notice a societal need, don’t wait for someone else to step in—consider starting a nonprofit to address it. Similarly, if you see a gap in the marketplace, take the initiative to start a company that fills that void. Angels exist, but they only appear to remind you that you are a mighty man of valour (Judges 6:12). The responsibility for creating the world you envision lies in your hands. It’s up to you to do the work, to take action, and to bring about the transformation you wish to see.
