Prayer Is The Master Key, Not The Only Key

Let us put aside our emotions and face the truth: if prayers alone could solve Nigeria’s socio-economic problems, the country would already be a paradise. Faithful believers have prayed for decades, and we know God hears us. Isaiah 59:1 tells us, “Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear.” This means God is capable and attentive. Therefore, the logical conclusion is that there is more to be done beyond prayer. Prayer is essential, but we must also take practical steps to bring about positive change.

It is important to study parts of the Bible that align with the results we seek. For national transformation, the Bible suggests the need for nationwide repentance, revival, and people who actively do the work. Frederick Douglass once said, “I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs.” This is a hyperbole, but it highlights a truth. When we pray, God answers immediately. Sometimes, we don’t like His answers. When you pray about issues like illiteracy and poverty, God wants you to take responsibility and act, not just wait for a savior.

Prayer is indeed the master key, but it is not the only key. We must learn to take responsibility and act in our world. Jesus said we are the salt and light of the world, which means we are called to influence and transform our surroundings. While prayer is essential for seeking God’s guidance and strength, we must also be willing to step out and do the work required to bring about change. As a watchman tasked with steering your world towards where God wants, learn to combine prayer with action. You are the means by which the grace of God permeates your community, who are you waiting for?
