If all you can do about the condition of your world is to pray. Please pray. James 5:16 reminds us that a righteous person’s prayer is powerful. When you pray with faith, you can alter the course of history. Your prayers are powerful. This is something you should keep in mind. In our attempt to emphasise that a believer should do more than pray, we risk downplaying prayer. And it is true that we should do more than pray. At the same time, we must emphasise that there are two fundamental things that all Christians should do: read their Bibles and pray every day.
Prayers are powerful. Prayer can be a mighty force on the earth. We know from scriptures that prayers continue to have an effect even after the death of the person that prayed. Blessings and curses continue to have effect long after the person that issues such spiritual utterances died. Prayer might not be the only key we need to change the world. But prayer is not just another key. Prayer is the master key. The prayer room is where it begins. Regardless of what your destiny, purpose or calling looks like, you should have a prayer discipline.
Prayers can be real, tangible, and used to great effect. James 5:17-18 described the effect of Elijah’s prayers on his country. A queen once said, “I fear the prayers of John Knox more than all the assembled armies of Europe” because his intense and effective prayer life had a profound impact on his country. John Knox’s prayers were seen as a powerful, transformative force that influenced the nation’s history. God can use you in the same way. If all you can do about the condition of your country is to pray. Please pray.
