God First, Others Second, Yourself Last

As Christians, we’re called to live differently. Our lives must follow the pattern of love. God first, others second, and ourselves last. That’s what it means to be like Christ. Jesus said the greatest commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. And the second is like it: love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:37–39). This is the Christian order of love. It’s not about self-promotion or always putting your needs first. When you love like this, you begin to live in a way that reflects the heart of God.

We can’t see God physically, so our love for Him must show in how we treat people. We honor God by honoring others. That means showing kindness, choosing patience, giving even when it’s not convenient, and listening even when we’d rather talk. Love is not just about feelings; it’s about action. It’s a daily decision to serve, to give, and to forgive. Yes, we must care for ourselves, but Christian love always leans outward. That’s how we grow. That’s how the world sees Christ in us; when we choose to love like He did. In practical, consistent ways.

This is not always easy. Life is messy, and people are hard to love sometimes. Our search for God can feel unclear, especially when we face pain, confusion, or disappointment. But love gives us a steady path. Love keeps our hearts soft. Love reminds us that we are not the center of the universe. It’s not about making up a God that suits us. It’s about following the God who calls us to love beyond ourselves. In every decision, relationship, or moment of tension, ask: am I putting God first? Am I putting others ahead of myself?
