You Have A Responsibility To Helping Others

Maturity begins when your life stops revolving around you. A child thinks mostly about what others can give them. A mature person begins to think about what they can give others. Not all your prayers should be about your needs. Not all your money belongs to you. Not all your time is yours to spend as you please. Some of it belongs to the people God has placed around you. True maturity is accepting responsibility for the growth, wellbeing, and success of others. It is choosing to invest your prayers, resources, and energy into helping other people become better.

The prophet Samuel understood this responsibility. Speaking to Israel, he said, “God forbid that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you” (1 Samuel 12:23). Samuel saw interceding for others not as a favour, but as a duty. Jesus carried this principle even further. He said, “Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13). Love is more than kind words and good intentions. Love costs something. Love gives up comfort, convenience, and personal ambition for the sake of others.

Take a moment to examine your life. Who benefits from your prayers? Who grows because of your generosity? Who receives your time, wisdom, and encouragement? Are you helping anyone become more like Christ? There comes a point in our walk with God when we must move beyond asking, “What can I get?” and begin asking, “Who can I help?” Do not get dramatic about it. Just embrace the mindset that you wish to be useful to others. A mature believer understands that God blesses us not merely so we can enjoy His gifts, but so that through us, others may also experience His goodness.
