Be Careful Who You Listen To

We live in a time where trending online is seen as a success. People will say anything to go viral, even if it’s harmful. This is one of the most dangerous things in our world today. Every day, influencers and celebrities dish out life advice with boldness, not caring who it misleads. Many young people have made serious life choices based on one-minute clips, tweets, or hot takes from someone just chasing attention. But lives are not games. You can recover from a bad haircut. But not always from bad advice. Wisdom calls us to be more careful.

One influencer once posted that he would never care for his parents. His post got attention, support, and backlash. Now, years later, he says parents should be honoured. He has changed his tune, but he never took responsibility for misleading others. When people challenged him, he flipped it and blamed them for not thinking for themselves. Sadly, this is not a rare case. This kind of careless influence happens every day. Opinions change, but the damage remains. Not everyone who speaks confidently is speaking the truth. And not all growth excuses the harm done.

The Bible says, “By their fruits you shall know them” (Matthew 7:16). Before you take advice, ask: What kind of fruit does this person bear? Are they grounded in wisdom? Have they lived out the things they teach? The Word of God remains our safest guide. Don’t follow people whose opinions change like the wind. Don’t build your life on shaky words. Real influence should bring real fruit. Listen with discernment. God gave you a mind, a Bible, and His Spirit for a reason. Use them. A word is enough for the wise.
