Some people say that following Jesus will make life easy. But that is not what the Bible teaches. Jesus never promised a life without pain or struggle. Instead, He said that anyone who wants to follow Him must deny themselves and carry their cross daily. That means sacrifice. That means discomfort. But it also means purpose and eternal reward. Psalm 23 doesn’t say we will avoid the valley of the shadow of death. It says we will walk through it. And while we walk, His rod and staff are there to comfort us. His presence doesn’t cancel the pain. It carries us through it.
To accept Jesus as your lord and saviour is to join in His mission. His goal was clear: to destroy the works of the devil and raise disciples for God’s kingdom. That work is not easy. It demands focus, sacrifice, and a deep sense of purpose. But it brings joy and fulfillment. There is a reason you feel peace when you’re on the right path, even if that path is tough. The struggles don’t mean you’re doing something wrong. They often mean you’re doing something that matters. Stay on the mission. Don’t drop the cross. There is glory at the end of the road.
The truth is, life is hard. Whether you follow Jesus or not. Keeping a job is hard. Running a business is hard. Growing a ministry is hard. Building relationships is hard. Choosing to wake up early to pray and study is hard. But so is living with confusion, regret, or spiritual emptiness. You just have to choose your hard. A mission-driven life comes with real challenges. But turning away from your calling won’t spare you either. It only gives you a different kind of pain. So, pick your hard wisely. Better to suffer for a purpose than wander without one.
