The world is constantly shifting, with new trends, movements, and ideologies emerging all the time. Without even thinking, many people adopt these trends simply because they are popular or widely accepted. But Romans 12:1-2 warns against blindly conforming to the world. As Christians, we must carefully examine what we embrace. Does it align with godly values? Does it reflect biblical truth? Many things seem harmless on the surface, but a closer look often reveals that they lead people away from God’s wisdom. A believer must not be passive but discerning, ensuring that they are shaped by truth, not by trends.
Take, for example, the popular saying: “We listen, we don’t judge.” At first glance, it sounds compassionate and open-minded. But is it really wise? A Christian who understands life, business, and creativity knows that judgment is essential. To judge means to evaluate, to discern, and to make informed decisions. A watchman tasked with overseeing their world cannot afford to abandon judgment. They must assess the worth of ideas, opportunities, and even people’s intentions. At the same time, they recognize the value of seeking wise counsel from those ahead of them—because true judgment requires wisdom and perspective.
Stop following trends just because they are popular. Before you embrace a movement, a mindset, or a new way of doing things, ask yourself: What is the spirit behind this? What ideology is driving it? If you do not understand the foundation of a trend, you have no business following it. These things appear harmless until you realise that you have been conformed into the world. You lose your ability to influence the world for God. A Christian who is serious about their mission must stay awake, be discerning, and refuse to be swept away by every new thing that comes along.
