You Do Not Necessarily Have To Love The Business

Some people make the mistake of believing that their business must be built around something they love or feel passionate about. But life is full of things you want to do and things you have to do. Success often requires doing what is necessary first. Luke 16:10-12 reminds us of the importance of being faithful with what belongs to others before being entrusted with our own. When you commit to doing what needs to be done, even if it’s not your dream business, it creates the foundation for greater opportunities later.

There is value in working for someone else or running your own business, not because you’re passionate about it, but to develop competence and experience. You can not grow your influence, increase your impact, or monetise your ideas if you lack the skills to do so. Every season of hard work builds your skills, understanding, and discipline. These are essential tools for future success. Once you’ve mastered the basics of trade and business, you can apply these skills to the projects you truly care about. Without this groundwork, many people fail when they try to chase their passion without any preparation.

Grit and discipline are more important than passion when it comes to long-term success. Passion can be fleeting, but well-honed skills and experience are what keep you going when things get tough. Please understand that business rewards competence over novelties. It is good to have new ideas, but without the skills, it won’t matter. Your “passion project” will have a greater chance of success if you approach it with the knowledge, skills, and resilience you’ve gained from doing what had to be done first. Be willing to take the harder path now so that you can eventually build the life and business you truly desire.
