Form The Habit Of Reading Your Mission Statement

Having a clear mission statement is essential to driving your work and staying focused. Your mission statement should not be something written down and forgotten. It must be kept “in-your-face,” a constant reminder of your purpose and goals. A mission statement that is not in your consciousness is hard to fulfill. It should be living, breathing, and evolving as you progress in your journey. Keep it visible, review it regularly, and ensure it stays relevant to your mission. You’ll stay aligned with your purpose and make meaningful progress if you form the habit of reading aloud, thinking and meditating on the mission statement.

In Habakkuk 2:2 (KJV), the Lord said, “Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.” This verse emphasises the importance of a clear and visible mission. It is not sufficient to write down a mission statement. One must also take the time to read aloud, think, and meditate on how to carry out this mission. You must be intentional about allowing the mission statement to guide your thoughts, intentions, and actions related to the mission. If you find yourself in a place without a clear, written mission statement, it may be a sign that you are in the wrong environment.

Reading and reflecting on your mission daily helps keep you focused and aligned with your goals. Imagine a farmer who plants seeds but forgets to water them consistently. Without that daily care, the seeds will wither. In the same way, neglecting your mission will lead to confusion and missed opportunities. Take, for instance, a Nigerian entrepreneur who starts a business but loses sight of their original purpose. Without constantly thinking about their mission, they could drift into hustle mode, leaving behind the core values that once set them apart. Staying anchored in your mission daily ensures you don’t lose your way.
