Surround Yourself With People That Demand Purpose And Excellence

Our lives should be guided by principles, not by emotional attachments. While emotions are a gift from God, meant to enrich our experiences, they must never lead us astray. The spirit, grounded in truth and purpose, should always have the final say. If a relationship consistently pulls you down, causing you to settle for less than God’s best, it’s time to re-evaluate it. Any emotional attachment that feeds into mediocrity, keeping you from pursuing excellence, needs to be cut off. We must be vigilant and ensure our connections push us toward our God-given potential, not away from it.

A powerful example of this can be found in the story of Abraham and Lot. In Genesis 13, Abraham made a difficult decision to part ways with Lot, his nephew, when their growing possessions caused strife between their herdsmen. Abraham understood that clinging to relationships that hinder peace and progress could delay his destiny. He chose to prioritize God’s promise over emotional attachment. In the same way, we must be willing to let go of relationships that lead us away from our purpose. Sometimes, it’s necessary to separate from what’s familiar to step into God’s plan for our lives.

To a creative, business-minded Christian committed to doing your best work that glorifies God, half of your success lies in discerning which relationships and environments are holding you back. As your priorities shift towards excellence and purpose, it’s natural for friendships to evolve or fade. When your mission is to watch your world and guide it toward God’s vision, anyone in your inner circle who doesn’t share a similar drive can become a stumbling block. Surround yourself with people who push you closer to your God-given purpose, and let go of those who keep you anchored in mediocrity.
