You must be careful not to assume anything about your purpose as you work in accordance with your mission and go out in obedience to God. Don’t fill in the blanks. You don’t want to mix up your assignment with something that, although it might be good, isn’t exactly what God wants. There are many ways by which you can make mistakes. Or go far beyond your initial instructions. You want to live your life in such a way that you do not end up messing up your assignment, mixing it up, or missing it completely.
To walk with God, you must become comfortable with some level of uncertainty and ambiguity. Don’t fill in the blanks. If you do not have enough context and information to begin, it is better to keep waiting. Anybody on a mission for heaven soon learns to err in caution, than to err in action. You want to look before you leap. You want to measure two or three times before cutting once. To the outside world, you might be taken to be slow and undecisive. Perhaps, they might even think you’re just confused. Pay no attention to them.
Apostle Peter wrote that, “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness.” We can learn from this that there is a way God counts slackness, and it is different from the way men count slackness. When people think you’re going too slowly or whatever, it doesn’t matter. On your own end, you must deal with ego and your natural craving for status. Your ego will do more damage to your purpose than outside criticism ever could. Deal with ego and natural cravings for success and status. Then seek out godly counsel to help you with good judgement on what way to go.
