The Cry And Restlessness In Your Heart

Every person’s heart contains a quiet cry. A desire for meaning, fulfilment, and purpose. Every human, including you, is wired in this manner. For some, the cry is not obvious. However, this is due to another pressing matter. For instance, poverty. Some people are currently only interested in making money. Nonetheless, it is well understood that as people begin to earn money and meet their material needs, they begin to feel a sense of purpose. It’s part of what’s known as the midlife crisis. You can not answer the call of purpose with things. Money, possessions, achievements, status. It never quite works.

Scripture acknowledges this restlessness. Ecclesiastes says God has set eternity in the human heart. That hunger cannot be satisfied by material accumulation. You can upgrade your lifestyle endlessly and still feel empty. This is why fulfillment is not a function of what you own or what you achieve. It is deeper than comfort or success. At the end of the day, you realise that your life is a gift, and you don’t know what to do with it. You’re not sure you’re able to maximize it. You’re not proud of yourself, your results, and what you have done.

This is precisely why people “give their lives to Jesus.” When someone gives their life to Jesus, they are not just adopting morals or religion. They are submitting to something larger than themselves. You should remember that the mission of Jesus is for people to have life, and have it more abundantly. Following Jesus helps to satisfy that yearning of your heart in a way no material possession can. His mission gives structure to service. It defines who you serve, why you serve, and how you serve. Purpose becomes clear when your life is aligned with His. A confused or purposeless Christian is nothing more than a stubborn, disobedient Christian.
